George Bush: If this were a dictatorship...

Cheney really wants U.S. dictator

George Bush: "If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier - just so long I'm the dictator." - December 18, 2000

Concerns: Andrew Greeley's story 07/07/06 in the Chicago Sun Times - ''Cheney really wants U.S. dictator.''*

The following sentence in the article I find - to say the least - quite strange:

''George W. Bush, his supporters will argue, is a good man, even a godly man. He won't misuse the powers, even if the power he claims is no less than Don Hugo Chavez exercises in Venezuela.''

I daily check reliable news sources in Venezuela publishing in English or Spanish, like - among others bilingual VHeadline.com - [http://www.vheadline.com/main.asp] - and have worked for a couple of years as an independent foreign correspondent in Latin America too.

The - from my human point of view - very positive development in Venezuela thanks to President (not 'Don' in this case) Hugo Chavez is - according to the majority of the people who live and work in Venezuela - one of the best things that ever could happen to them.

Why would they otherwise in those few years elect/confirm his position 8 (eight) times? With the NSA/CIA and other dirty 'spooks' sabotaging the development, pouring in destabilizing $millions via the US and other embassies, and their covers like Sumate, strange NGO's etc.?

Maybe because president Chavez treats the Venezuelan majority like human beings? Instead of using the American 'Kleenex' system concerning humans: use, abuse and throw away?

Well, for all malignant editors of the PNAC's anti-Chavez media - and the by them brainwashed people - this ought to be interesting reading: in August 2002 an article written by Maurice Lemoine was (also in English) published by 'Le Monde Diplomatique', about the
murderous role of the US-influenced and paid 'momio' press in Venezuela, the megaphones of the predators.
Lemoine's article about 'Venezuela's press power' was called 'How hate media incited the (US) coup against the President':

"Never even in Latin American history has the media been so directly involved in a political coup. Venezuela's 'hate media' controls 95% of the airwaves and has a near-monopoly over newsprint, and it played a major part in the failed attempt to overthrow the president, Hugo Chávez, in April.

Although tensions in the country could easily spill into civil war, the media is still directly encouraging dissident elements to overthrow the democratically elected president - if necessary by force." [end quote] - Url.: http://mondediplo.com/2002/08/10.../08/ 10venezuela

So, I do not get what the quote in the US article by Andrew Greeley means: ''even if the power he claims is no less than Don Hugo Chavez exercises in Venezuela''. The development there is one which many people in the US deserve but do not get: the dictatorship is too expensive, running in the hundreds of $billions.

The inability to understand said phrase can be because English is not my mother tongue, and I have in four decades abroad never worked for a longer period in a country where the local lingo was English. And nowadays like most people I don't like to travel to - or stay for a longer time in - the United Police States anymore, nor in Tony Blair's England which is getting worse by the day.* Even if travel is very cheap and the natives for the most still friendly... So I meet my American and British friends somewhere else.

I translated the sentence to a couple of other languages I know, but whatever vernacular, it still doesn't make sense.

And, coming to think of it; what kind of title is that: Cheney really wants U.S. dictator?

The US already is a nightmarish dictatorship for billions of human beings in the world.

Who think that Charlie Chaplin's movie 'The Dictator' fits Bush, his Gestapo, and the present regrettable 'State of the Union' very well.*
