First NEWSWEEK, today TIME: Guantanamo torture
US media finally report on Guantanamo concentration camp atrocities
by Henk Ruyssenaars
FPF - June 13 - 2005 - TIME Magazine has obtained the first documented look inside the highly classified realm of military interrogations since the Gitmo Camp at Guantanamo Bay opened.* The document is a secret 84-page interrogation log that details the interrogation of ‘Detainee 063’ at Guantanamo Bay.
It is a remarkable look into the range of techniques and methods used for the interrogation of Mohammed al Qahtani, who is widely believed to be the so-called 20th hijacker, a compatriot of Osama bin Laden and a man who had tried to enter the U.S. in August 2001 to take part in the Sept. 11 attacks.*
TIME’s report, by Adam Zagorin and Michael Duffy, appears in this week’s issue (on newsstands today, Monday). According to an Associated Press report yesterday, 'Sen. Mel Martinez said the US government should consider closing the Guantanamo Bay prison for terrorism suspects, the first high-profile member of President George W. Bush's Republican Party to make the suggestion.
Earlier in a Bush supporting verdict the US government's Supreme Court has ruled that 'Guantanamo inmates can contest the illegality of their detention in a civil court'. But no prisoner has yet been allowed to do so. Contrary to formerly respected American and International law, especially the 'Geneva Conventions', none of the illegally held and abused detainees has yet been brought to trial by the american government which operates this concentrationcamp in what Amnesty International called the 'United States Gulag' in a report which can be found here - Url.: http://tinyurl.com/3pep2
