Hiroshima bomb may have carried hidden agenda + 'Depleted Uranium'

FPF: NEXT THURSDAY, at a press conference in London on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the atomic bombings on Japan, the following theory is supposed to be presented: the US decision to bomb was meant to kick-start the Cold War. Also discussed will be the present and global nuclear disaster unfolding before our eyes: the use of DU - 'depleted uranium' - by the US/UK and it's collaborating and criminal allies - which equals the 'fall out' of hundreds of thousands of nuclear bombs like in Hiroshima. It's a global disaster.*

Hiroshima bomb may have carried hidden agenda

by Rob Edwards - 2005 NewScientist.com news service

The US decision to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 was meant to kick-start the Cold War rather than end the Second World War, according to two nuclear historians who say they have new evidence backing the controversial theory.

Causing a fission reaction in several kilograms of uranium and plutonium and killing over 200,000 people 60 years ago was done more to impress the Soviet Union than to cow Japan, they say.

And the US President who took the decision, Harry Truman, was culpable, they add.

"He knew he was beginning the process of annihilation of the species," says Peter Kuznick*, director of the Nuclear Studies Institute at American University* in Washington DC, US. "It was not just a war crime; it was a crime against humanity."

According to the official US version of history, an A-bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on 6 August 1945, and another on Nagasaki three days later, to force Japan to surrender. The destruction was necessary to bring a rapid end to the war without the need for a costly US invasion.

But this is disputed by Kuznick and Mark Selden, a historian from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, US. They are presenting their evidence at a meeting in London on Thursday organised by Greenpeace and others to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the bombings.

Looking for peace New studies of the US, Japanese and Soviet diplomatic archives suggest that Truman's main motive was to limit Soviet expansion in Asia, Kuznick claims. Japan surrendered because the Soviet Union began an invasion a few days after the Hiroshima bombing, not because of the atomic bombs themselves, he says.

According to an account by Walter Brown, assistant to then-US secretary of state James Byrnes, Truman agreed at a meeting three days before the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima that Japan was "looking for peace". Truman was told by his army generals, Douglas Macarthur and Dwight Eisenhower, and his naval chief of staff, William Leahy, that there was no military need to use the bomb. "Impressing Russia was more important than ending the war in Japan," says Selden.

Truman was also worried that he would be accused of wasting money on the Manhattan Project to build the first nuclear bombs, if the bomb was not used, he adds.

Kuznick and Selden's arguments, however, were
dismissed as "discredited" by Lawrence Freedman, a war expert from King's College London, UK. He says that Truman's decision to bomb Hiroshima was "understandable in the circumstances".

Truman's main aim had been to end the war with Japan, Freedman says, but adds that, with the wisdom of hindsight, the bombing may not have been militarily justified. Some people assumed that the US always had "a malicious and nasty motive", he says, "but it ain't necessarily so."

John Pilger - Blair Is Unfit to Be Prime Minister

FPF-FWD.: Bush & Blair as 'The Terror Twins' + INTERESTING LINKS BELOW.

But there are no videos or pictures from the 25 minute subway ride of three of the bombers/patsies?

***************************************************************************************

By John Pilger     The New Statesman, UK

25 July 2005 Issue

Terror and the UK - The senseless repercussions of interventions in Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine demand that we renew our anger at our leaders. Our troops must come home. We owe it to all those who died in London on 7 July.

In all the coverage of the bombing of London, a truth has struggled to be heard. With honourable exceptions, it has been said guardedly, apologetically. Occasionally, a member of the public has broken the silence, as an east Londoner did when he walked in front of a CNN camera crew and reporter in mid-platitude. "Iraq!" he said. "We invaded Iraq and what did we expect? Go on, say it."

Alex Salmond tried to say it on Today on Radio 4. He was told he was speaking "in poor taste . . . before the bodies are even buried". George Galloway was lectured on Newsnight (BBC2) that he was being "crass". The inimitable Ken Livingstone contradicted his previous statement, which was that the invasion of Iraq would come home to London. With the exception of Galloway, not one so-called anti-war MP spoke out in clear, unequivocal English. The warmongers were allowed to fix the boundaries of public debate; one of the more idiotic, in the Guardian, called Blair "the world's leading statesman".

And yet, like the man who interrupted CNN, people understand and know why, just as the majority of Britons oppose the war and believe Blair is a liar. This frightens the British political elite. At a large media party I attended, many of the important guests uttered "Iraq" and "Blair" as a kind of catharsis for that which they dared not say professionally and publicly.

THE BOMBS OF 7 JULY WERE BLAIR'S BOMBS.

Blair brought home to this country his and Bush's illegal, unprovoked and blood-soaked adventure in the Middle East. Were it not for his epic irresponsibility, the Londoners who died in the Tube and on the No 30 bus almost certainly would be alive today. This is what Livingstone ought to have said. To paraphrase perhaps the only challenging question put to Blair on the eve of the invasion, it is now surely beyond all doubt that the man is unfit to be prime minister.

How much more evidence is needed? Before the invasion, Blair was warned by the Joint Intelligence Committee that "by far the greatest terrorist threat" to this country would be "heightened by military action against Iraq". He was warned by 79 per cent of Londoners who, according to a YouGov survey in February 2003, believed that a British attack on Iraq "would make a terrorist attack on London more likely". A month ago, a leaked, classified CIA report revealed that the invasion had turned Iraq into a focal point of terrorism. Before the invasion, said the CIA, Iraq "exported no terrorist threat to its neighbors" because Saddam Hussein was "implacably hostile to al-Qaeda".

Now, an 18 July report by the Chatham House organization, a "think tank" deep within the British establishment, may well beckon Blair's coup de grâce. It says there is "no doubt" the invasion of Iraq has "given a boost to the al-Qaeda network" in "propaganda, recruitment and fundraising" while providing an ideal targeting and training area for terrorists. "Riding pillion with a powerful ally" has cost Iraqi, American and British lives. The right-wing academic, Paul Wilkinson, a voice of western power, was the principal author. Read between the lines and it says the prime minister is now a serious liability. Those who run this country know he has committed a great crime; the "link" has been made.

Blair's bunker-mantra is that there was terrorism long before the invasion, notably 11 September. Anyone with an understanding of the painful history of the Middle East would not have been surprised by 11 September or by the bombing of Madrid and London, only that they had not happened earlier. I have reported the region for 35 years, and if I could describe in a word how millions of Arab and Muslim people felt, I would say "humiliated". When Egypt looked like winning back its captured territory in the 1973 war with Israel, I walked through jubilant crowds in Cairo: it felt as if the weight of history's humiliation had lifted. In a very Egyptian flourish, one man said to me, "We once chased cricket balls at the British club. Now we are free."

They were not free, of course. The Americans re-supplied the Israeli army and they almost lost everything again. In Palestine, the humiliation of a captive people is Israeli policy. How many Palestinian babies have died at Israeli checkpoints after their mothers, bleeding and screaming in premature labor, have been forced to give birth beside the road at a military checkpoint with the lights of a hospital in the distance? How many old men have been forced to show obeisance to young Israeli conscripts? How many families have been blown to bits by America-supplied F-16s with British-supplied parts?

The gravity of the bombing of London, said a BBC commentator, "can be measured by the fact that it marks Britain's first suicide bombing". What about Iraq? There were no suicide bombers in Iraq until Blair and Bush invaded. What about Palestine? There were no suicide bombers in Palestine until Ariel Sharon, an accredited war criminal sponsored by Bush and Blair, came to power. In the 1991 Gulf "war", American and British forces left more than 200,000 Iraqis dead and injured and the infrastructure of their country in "an apocalyptic state", according to the United Nations. The subsequent embargo, designed and promoted by zealots in Washington and Whitehall, was not unlike a medieval siege. Denis Halliday, the United Nations official assigned to administer the near-starvation food allowance, called it "genocidal".

I witnessed its consequences: tracts of southern Iraq contaminated with depleted uranium and cluster bomblets waiting to explode. I watched dying children, some of the half a million infants whose deaths Unicef attributed to the embargo - deaths which US Secretary of State Madeline Albright said were "worth it". In the west, this was hardly reported. Throughout the Muslim world, the bitterness was like a presence, its contagion reaching many young British-born Muslims.

In 2001, in revenge for the killing of 3,000 people in the Twin Towers, more than 20,000 Muslims died in the Anglo-American invasion of Afghanistan. This was revealed by Jonathan Steele in the London Guardian and was never news, to my knowledge. The attack on Iraq was the Rubicon, making the reprisal against Madrid and the bombing of London entirely predictable: the latter "in response to the massacres carried out by Britain in Iraq and Afghanistan ...", claimed a group called the Organization for El Qaeda in Europe. Whether or not the claim was genuine, the reason was. Bush and Blair wanted a "war on terror" and they got it.

Omitted from public discussion is that their state terror makes al-Qaeda's appear miniscule by comparison. More than 100,000 Iraqi men, woman and children have been killed, not by suicide bombers, but by the Anglo-American "coalition", says a peer-reviewed study published in the Lancet, and largely ignored.

In his poem "From Iraq", Michael Rosen wrote:

We are the unfound
We are uncounted
You don't see the homes we made
We're not even the small print or the bit in brackets . . .
because we lived far from you,
because you have cameras that point the other way . . .

Imagine, for a moment, you are in the Iraqi city of Fallujah. It is an American police state, like a vast penned ghetto. Since April last year, the hospitals there have been subjected to an American policy of collective punishment. Staff have been attacked by US marines, doctors have been shot, emergency medicines blocked. Children have been murdered in front of their families.

Now imagine the same state of affairs imposed on the London hospitals that received the victims of the bombing. When will someone draw this parallel at one of Blair's staged "press conferences", at which he is allowed to emote for the cameras about "our values outlast [ing] theirs"? Silence is not journalism. In Fallujah, they know "our values" only too well. And when will someone invite the obsequious Bob Geldoff to explain why his hero, Blair's smoke-and-mirrors "debt cancellation" amounts to less than the money the Blair government spends in a week, brutalizing Iraq?

The hand-wringing over "whither Islam's soul" is another distraction. Christianity leaves Islam for dead as an industrial killer. The cause of the current terrorism is neither religion nor hatred for "our way of life". It is political, requiring a political solution. It is injustice and double standards, which plant the deepest grievances. That, and the culpability of our leaders, and the "cameras that point the other way", are the core of it.

On 19 July, while the BBC governors were holding their annual general meeting at Television Centre, an inspired group of British documentary filmmakers met outside the main gates and conducted a series of news reports of the kind you do not see on television. Actors played famous reporters doing their "camera pieces". The "stories" they reported included the targeting of the civilian population of Iraq, the application of the Nuremberg Principles to Iraq, America's illegal rewriting of the laws of Iraq and theft of its resources through privatization, the everyday torture and humiliation of ordinary people and the failure to protect Iraqis archaeological and cultural heritage.

Blair is using the London bombing to further deplete our rights and those of others, as Bush has done in America. Their goal is not security, but greater control. The memory of their victims in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine and elsewhere demands the renewal of our anger. The troops must come home. Nothing less is owed to those who died and suffered in London on 7 July, unnecessarily, and nothing less is owed to those whose lives are marked if this travesty endures.

Group purporting to be part of Al Qaida seems to be a phantom organization.

What is Al Qaida? - Url.: http://tinyurl.com/dbemg

by Henk Ruyssenaars

FPF - July 25th 2005 - Much is talked about this strange group called - 'Abu Hafs el Masri Brigade' - taking the blame/responsibility for a lot, as a part of the 'global Al Qaida terror'. So maybe it's a good idea to see what the mainstream media printed already last year in March, like the Boston Globe, which is just the New York Times in another 'jacket', but with the same neocon owners.* Now selling 'whitewash' on the London bombers again.

The cousin - of the liquidated Brazilian man Jean Charles de Menezes who was executed in the London subway while held down, with five shots in the head by 'under cover agents' - told British media about the 'running away' from the three plain clothes (jeans/cap model) agents: "Three weeks ago who was beaten up by some hooligans; that's why he was scared too, and ran." The following txt/quote may apply:

"Scotland Yard said Mr Menezes, who lived in Brixton, south London, was completely unconnected to the bomb attacks and added: "For somebody to lose their life in such circumstances is a tragedy and one that the Metropolitan Police Service regrets."

ITS NOT A TRAGEDY, ITS A CRIME. - When you set out to commit pre-emptive lethal violence on someone, you have to be perfect every time, because if you aren't, and you continue anyway to kill people, you become part of the terrorism that you claim to be fighting." - [endquote - Url.: http://tinyurl.com/c5t59]

According to the BBC, for whatever it's worth now: ''Jean Charles de Menezes, 27, may have run from police because of his (expired) visa situation, BBC correspondents say - Url.: http://tinyurl.com/akut3 - The BBC - as Blair's Broadcasting Company - has however become totally unreliable. How the 'Whitehall whitewash' is done, and going on, is very well described here: http://tinyurl.com/8abal

But, what's Al Qaida? [http://tinyurl.com/dbemg] - The Boston Gobe article last year wrote on the 'Abu Hafs el Masri Brigade' the following, titled [US] ''Officials: Group tying self to blasts may not be real'' - in a story by Bryan Bender and Farah Stockman, Globe Staff, and published on 3/13/2004: ''WASHINGTON - A group purporting to be part of Al Qaeda that claimed responsibility for the Madrid train bombings and warned of a looming attack on the United States seems to be a phantom organization, according to US intelligence officials and terrorism specialists.

In a 24-hour news cycle dominated by fears of terrorism, the latest e-mail from the Abu Hafs al Masri Brigade to a London-based Arabic newspaper sowed anxiety and drew instant headlines all over the world. But specialists say there is no evidence the organization exists. E-mail messages purporting to be written by the group previously claimed responsibility for everything from the North American blackout to a suicide attack that killed 20 Italian policemen in Iraq. But none of those claims has proved true, intelligence specialists say.

THE LATEST MESSAGE WARNED THAT AN ATTACK AGAINST THE UNITED STATES IS "90 PERCENT READY."

Employees at the Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper in London, which has received several letters in recent months purporting to be from the group, say they are not sure what the group is. Deciphering the group -- which first surfaced in July 2003 -- illustrates a larger challenge for counterterrorism officials: assessing the murky world of purported Al Qaeda splinter groups that have been responsible for a dramatic increase in highly sophisticated terrorist bombings around the world.

Spanish officials said yesterday they had no concrete evidence of Al Qaeda involvement in the Thursday attacks, and continued to identify ETA -- a Basque separatist group -- as one suspect.

But the worldwide attention generated by the Abu Hafs al Masri e-mail, received hours after the attacks occurred, demonstrated how easily threats purported to be from Al Qaeda can be spread. Terrorism analysts say such claims form part of the tactics of psychological warfare and propaganda, designed to capitalize on actual violence and deepen public fear of more attacks.

"It goes to the more virtual nature of Al Qaeda," said Peter Bergen, a terrorism specialist at the New America Foundation in Washington. "Some are real; some are waging psychological warfare."

A US official who has access to the latest intelligence information said the brigade's name is the nom de guerre of a senior bin Laden lieutenant who was killed by American forces in an airstrike in Afghanistan in November 2001.

"The name they picked out is what is sometimes confusing. Their ties to Al Qaeda are not as clear-cut," said the official, who asked that his name not be used. He added that US intelligence officials do not know whether the group exists.

Another US intelligence official said, "This group, organization, or whatever it is, is a phantom."

Ben Venzke, CEO of IntelCenter, a private company that specializes in analyzing terrorist messages for government agencies, said that while he believes Al Qaeda could have been responsible for the Madrid bombings, messages from the purported brigade are not credible.

Venzke said it became clear last year that the many letters and faxes did not have the same style as messages from Al Qaeda. Bin Laden's organization and offshoots have become more media-savvy in recent years and are increasingly providing video or audiotapes that can be verified for authenticity, Venzke said.

For example, e-mail messages to a journalist for Al-Majallah magazine who is based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, sent days before the May 13 bombings in Saudi Arabia are thought to have come from a bona fide messenger of Al Qaeda. The e-mails warned of impending guerrilla warfare on the Arabian Peninsula. The attackers even made videotapes of the preparations for the bombing to be sent to the public.

But unlike those messages, none of the brigade's e-mails has ever proved authentic, Venzke said.

By last August, he said, he already had begun to disregard the group when it sent the clearest indication that it is a sham: a message to Al-Quds claiming responsibility for the blackout that struck New York City, Ohio, southern Ontario, and eastern Michigan last year.

That blackout was determined to have been caused by a power grid failure.

Larry Mefford, executive assistant director for counterterrorism at the FBI, told Congress that the group's terrorism claims were "wishful thinking."

"We have no information confirming the actual existence of this group," Mefford said, adding that the group also has claimed responsibility on Internet sites for the Aug. 5, 2003, bombing of the Marriott hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Venzke said: "They started claiming responsibility for just about everything in the world. We've never been able to determine if it is just one person sitting at a computer having fun or if it really is a group."

The editor of Al-Quds, Abdel Bari Atwan, could not be reached yesterday, but a woman who identified herself as a receptionist said that e-mail messages from the brigade came in Arabic and that she has no other information about the group.

When asked whether the letter seemed credible, she said: "That's the problem. Probably not.

THERE IS NO PROOF OF ANYTHING, IF SUCH A THING EXISTS OR IS BEING MADE UP BY AMERICA OR SOMEONE ELSE."

America: The New Heart of Darkness by John Kaminski

Our creature comforts have made silent cowards of us all

by John Kaminski skylax@comcast.net

... ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY.

- Lord Acton

ALL A MAN CAN BETRAY IS HIS CONSCIENCE.

- Joseph Conrad

"WE DO IT BECAUSE WE CAN," THE MILITARY MAN SAID SMUGLY. AND BY SUCH PHILOSOPHY, THE CORPORATE AMERICAN WAR MACHINE TRIES TO TAKE THE WORLD TO ITS GRAVE.

The former general and recent Secretary of State Colin Powell's words still ring in my ears: "We don't count the Iraqi dead," he said. Perhaps it was because he knew he couldn't count that high. For a month I've looked around for something positive to say, something encouraging, uplifting, productive ... and failing that, perhaps something consoling, some obvious explanation of the twisted perversion that has wrapped its petrochemical tentacles around the throat of humanity and keeps squeezing.

Across the gray landscape of languid lies and malevolent misconceptions, I see nothing to cling to. No ray of hope. Only lies, self-serving twists of what used to be called logic. Freedom is no longer safe, they tell us.

You must have a number. And while you're at it, take this toxic vaccine, and no, you won't be able to sue the manufacturer if you get sick.

Just do it, as the slogan commands us.

The right to a fair trial is no longer guaranteed. You can be put in jail or executed for reasons that can be kept secret. And still, on the crumbling streets of America, most people go about their business as if nothing has
happened.

Sensible people, who in the deepening darkness of their own secret hearts must realize something has definitely happened, that something definitely will happen. Sensible people, suddenly afraid to speak what they really believe for fear their neighbors will overhear and tell someone with a gun and a uniform, or worse, an employer with an important contract who wants no employees who don't agree with the way things are. And then, they think, paralyzed by fear, who will feed the kids? Scared silence follows.

Who would have thought that democracy would come to mean tyranny? OK, Orwell. And many other now unpopular voices, never heard in our manacled media.

Who would have thought, when all was said and done, that America would turn out to be the chief threat to the survival of all life on this planet? But as the announcer always reminds us, this is why we play the game. You never know how it will turn out.

HOW IT HAS TURNED OUT IS LIKE THIS.

No one dares to speak the truth in America, because if they do, they will be removed from the corrupt system of profit-making that enables them to remain smug and secure (they think) in their never-paid-off homes. Just think of all those well-paid journalists and broadcasters who pretend to be such authorities on what's going on in the world.

Not one of them dares to mention, as they wax opportunistically compassionateover the quarter million dead from the suspicious tsunami in the Indian Ocean, that a nearly equal number of equally innocent corpses has been generated by their own hypocrisy in the gutters of various Fallujahs in countries they can barely remember the names of. Nobody's even talking about the continuing genocide in central Africa.

Not one of them dares to mention that two brothers counted more than 80 percent of the votes in the recent American election (and both of them were publicly enthusiastic about re-electing the tyrant in office), that there were discrepancies in the counting of those votes ONLY in places where there was unverifiable computerized voting, and that poor people everywhere were physically and mentally discouraged from going to the polls.

OR THAT EVEN THE CANDIDATE WHO LOST DIDN'T REALLY OBJECT TO LOSING.

Not one of them dares to mention that America, their country, is deliberatelykilling its own soldiers by (1) putting them into a poorly organized military deployment where they will likely be killed by the very people they are trying to rape, kill, and intimidate into accepting the corporate totalitarianism that the killers don't even realize they are supporting, and (2) by polluting their bodies with dangerous ammunition that will kill them with cancer a few short years down the road.

Almost no one realizes 10,000 Americans have died as a result of the first Gulf War.

A few of the pundits (are you listening, Mike Ruppert?) mention that population reduction is a good idea, however, giving us all just a glimpse of the blood in the teeth of their smiles.

And not one of them dares to mention the contrived horror of 9/11, and the self-serving lies that followed, the total coverup that was called an investigation, and the vigilante hysteria that followed, unleashing a> mindless bloodlust to kill who they told us to kill, who just happened to be people they wanted to steal from.

We see from American behavior in Iraq the endless and deliberate killings of innocent bystanders, the indiscriminate bombing of a population we insist we are rescuing, and the corrupt prevention of independent reporting on the terrible crimes we are committing that the United States is a nation of conscienceless killers, who have absolutely no regard for the welfare and safety of wholly innocent people who happen to reside outside their borders.

Americans hide their atrocious deeds in self-serving rationalizations that nobody really believes, not even, I suspect, the people who are uttering them.

And we see from American behavior inside America the acceptance of their government's lies about 9/11, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and continuing promises of further invasions of other innocent countries that the United States is a nation of foul, cowardly, heartless, psychotic and unprincipled murderers, who have blackmailed the rest of the world into accepting their racist imperalism and aggression at the point of their very big guns.

THERE IS NO TERROR THREAT.

It was invented by the Israelis in the White House who wanted to take the focus off the genocide going on in Israel. (See Colin Powell below*)

The 9/11deception will not be solved until the Israeli component of it is unearthed, and right now, that won't happen because the entire 9/11 skeptics movement is riddled with Israeli moles and Zionist apologists.

How long will the world wait to do something about this menace, now that it has been proven that no matter how many actual Americans disapprove of this consumately sociopathic behavior, they are powerless to stop the corporate war machine, which they support by their silence, from plundering the planet into an irreversibly toxic condition.

By their actions over the past century, Americans have revealed themselves to be psycho killers in pursuit of profit at the expense of everyone else on the planet.

THEY MUST BE STOPPED, AND IF AMERICANS CAN'T STOP THEMSELVES, THEN SOMEONE ELSE MUST, FOR THE BENEFIT OF WHAT IS GOOD AND RIGHT AND NOBLE AND HONEST.

The real terrorists are the Americans (and their sidekicks the British, the Israelis and the Australians), and the rest of the world needs to wake up to that before it's too late for everyone.

If the United States were ever to consent to the auspices of a genuinely honest World Court (which is why we won't), its leaders would easily be convicted of widespread genocide and crimes against humanity, and be sentenced to the maximum penalty.

By their silent complicity, the American people are accessories to all these horrendous crimes before, during, and after the fact, and deserve the same punishment as its leaders.

It's a little something to remember when on that fateful day the world finally comes calling to repay America for the gifts it has bestowed upon the world.

JUST DON'T SAY YOU DIDN'T KNOW.

BECAUSE PEOPLE WITH GUNS DON'T LISTEN.
